Kay has spent the past 20 years as a complementary health professional, 10 years as a Kundalini yoga and meditation teacher and 6 years working with Smiling Mind.

No. That is the beauty of Kundalini. You do not have to get into the positions you commonly associate with Yoga. You absolutely become more flexible but it is achieved in different ways.

Kundalini is different in every way as it incorporates the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of yoga into one cohesive and integrated system. It has a much broader emphasis on breathing, meditation, hand positions (mudras), chanting (mantra), and spirituality.

It enables you to harness the energy of your mind and emotions, so you can be in control of yourself, rather than being controlled by your thoughts and feelings. It is on-the-job training for success and excellence in life, and is designed to give you a “hands on” experience of higher consciousness.

It teaches positive self-empowering attitudes of thinking. It builds inner strength and self awareness so you can fulfil your highest potential. It perfects the finite life while connecting you to the Infinite experience, enabling you to merge with or “yoke” with the universal Self.

It differs in that you are not sitting becoming aware of your thoughts and letting them go. You have a lot of tools to use that take up all your focus and concentration which are turbo charging the benefits of Meditation. It’s very suitable for people who find it difficult to just sit and meditate. There is too much to do to get bored.

In Kundalini Yoga, a kriya is a series of postures, breath, and sound that work toward a specific outcome. Practicing a kriya initiates a sequence of physical and mental changes that affect the body, mind, and spirit simultaneously. There are kriyas that support the liver, balance the glandular system, make you radiant, stimulate the pituitary, increase the flexibility of the spine, and many more. Each kriya has a different effect, but all work on all levels of your being.

A kriya is directed to specific areas of the body. This process is enhanced by breath work, mudras and mantras.  It cleanses the blood, expands the lungs and heart, balances the nervous system and the hormonal system and builds energy. It is important to turn this energy over to the autonomic nervous system to use to heal the body. This is done by immediately relaxing after a Kriya. It also prepares the mind and body for meditation.

The nervous system is healed by sound. The gong is the most healing sound to the nervous system.
